Tips for picking out your next pair of sunglasses:
• Look for lenses labeled "UV400" or that block out 99 to 100% of both UV-A and UV-B rays.
• Lenses with a uniform tint
• A frame that fits close to the eye and contours to the shape of the face.
• The bigger the frame the better.
• Wear sunglasses year round and even on overcast days to ensure total protection.
• Get you normal eye prescription added to your sunglasses.
Although there are negatives to being exposed to the sunlight, it does provide us with vitamin D. Vitamin D promotes healthy bones and teeth. We can enjoy the sunshine, but remain safe at the same time. UV rays can be harmful for your eyes, but also your skin. Always wear eye and skin protection when exposed to UV rays. It is recommended that you wear sunscreen protection of at least 30 spf(Sun Protection Factor) when exposed to sunlight.
Next time you step outside to enjoy the summer sun, remember these four simple tips to protect your skin and sight:
- Wear Sunglasses. Wearing the proper sunglasses while in the sun and in the shade will help protect your eyes from UV Rays and defend against damage to the eye.
- Wear Wide Brim Hats. A wide brimmed hat or cap can limit UV rays that hit the eyes from above or around.
- Wear Goggles and NEVER swim in contact lenses. Bacteria in the water can create infections in the eyes and if you wear contact lenses you may be more susceptible.
- Always Remember Children Need Protection Too! It is important to start protection early to preserve health and good vision.
Remember to protect yourself from the sun and enjoy your summer!
