Hesham K. Gabr, M.D., M.Sc.
Dr. Hesham Gabr graduated from Ain Shams University in Egypt. He completed a two-year Retina Research fellowship at Duke University, where he received the Research to Prevent Blindness grant to support his innovative project on 3D printing of ophthalmic instruments. He then completed his Ophthalmology residency at Duke University, followed by a two-year fellowship in Medical and Surgical Retina at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. Gabr has authored or co-authored over 12 scientific articles and book chapters related to medical and surgical retina and has presented at many national and international meetings. His research interests include surgical techniques and instrumentation, intraoperative imaging including intraoperative optical coherence tomography and subretinal injection of therapeutics.
Dr. Gabr specializes in the clinical and surgical management of adult vitreoretinal diseases. His clinical interests and expertise include macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular diseases, secondary intraocular lens implantation, complex retinal detachment repair, and macular surgery, including macular holes and epiretinal membranes.
In his free time, Dr. Gabr enjoys hiking, playing soccer, traveling, going to the gym, and spending time with his family.
Dr. Gabr joins Tennessee Retina in September 2024, and will be seeing patients in our Nashville, Clarksville, and Cookeville locations.
